First Day of Teaching: Reflection for Form 206

(10.30-11.40) July 22th, 2013

I started the lesson at 10.35 in audiovisual room. At the beginning I asked them to introduce their nick names only. As a matter of fact, this was how I engaged with them at the very first time. Apparently it took some moment which I had not calculated this activity at the beginning in my lesson plan.

Students were pretty cooperative. They followed the lesson enthusiastically. Most of them were willing to speak in English when they had their activities as well as answering my questions.

In the middle of the lesson I added more information to them upon the noun phrase explanation however I did not go deeper. I will then explore more in the next meeting.

In their last activity, I asked them to be the interviewer and interviewee. In pairs they acted as a famous artist then their friend was the journalist. It was pretty exciting activity since as teacher I could really hear that they use fully English and even some of them were really living in the character and develop the questions.

Strength:

I found the students pretty exciting in learning the topic as well as using active English. As a teacher, I actively trigger them with some questions to make them think. I also indirectly asked them to help each other by answering the difficult words and questions they had not completed yet. In the end I can conclude that today’s lesson was fun and active.

Weakness:

The weaknesses basically came from me. First, I had not calculated the time allotment for students’ introduction. I was too long at the beginning or elicitation. In the middle, I wished I had explained deeper for the noun phrase. In the end I was afraid that the time would run out quickly which in fact I still had 10 minutes left.

Plan for the next lesson:

-          Be better to use more effective time management

-          Explain better and give students more time to think and digest the explanation.

-          Remember students’ names.

A Week in Malaysia

I arrived at LCCT airport when my watch hit the short hand on 1 and its long hand on 6. yeah, I arrived in Malaysia at 1.30 PM. It was not a long flight, only 2 hours however, we gotta arrived at A.Yani airport in Semarang at 7 AM. Instead, I, Sofi and Raeni had been there at 6 AM while others came after 6.30 AM. There are fifteen of us and three lectures. All of us then waited for some minutes then got into UPSI's (Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris) bus to get us to Seri Harmoni apartment. 
The next thing happened was that we were dropping our bags and luggage and ready to shower. We then relaxed fro a while on our beds. There was one incident where Tami could not open the bedroom. Finally, we gotta found Pak Bambang and finally told him that we have one spoiler. wait, what? spoiler? No,just kidding, I know I am too exaggerating. She is a Malay girl that come to meet her lecturer at UPSI. In the End Fatimah must have moved to the next room with the girls. It was not a big deal.LOL, even though she probably still felt annoyed since she gotta move. However, everything seemed okay. 
The next day we had to attend the meeting and briefing from UPSI. Oh, the library is so cool anyway. We had a full day set to learn the culture of Malays. It was an interesting event. we had photo-shot with all of the UPSI commitee in PPL AB. Before that, we had a "serious" discussion meeting our mentor and supervisor that day. 
The next day, Wednesday, we went to our full two months. Most of us were sent to nearest area but not me, Sofi and Rista. Our school to have the teaching practice is in Felda, Trolak. It is about 2 hours by car to Kuala Lumpur. it takes time but then, well, it is fine. At least yesterday I was able to visit my Mom in KL and have lots of joy wandering KLCC (the twin tower). Today, I am back for observing before I have my real teaching practice. I will follow Mr. Neil from Scotland if I am not mistaken. Ahh, happy Monday everyone

My Tough Decision and Let’s Pull an All-Nighter

I want to say good thing. I want to write good thing. I want to read good thing. All thing I say good thing is I want to stay debating. Yes, Memei was right that I will survive. That I have to use this chance. That I must not lose this chance.

I am not allowed to waste the chance to the thing that I even haven’t seen it, haven’t felt it and more important is haven’t tried it. I won’t sacrifice the chance to go to BAWOR for myself being loser.

 I say, debate is my entire life. Look Septima, you still have time, you have capability, you have great friends, moreover you’ve got your exact purpose.

Tonight, I commit to myself and Memei that everything they both said were right. And Memei was really open my eyes. She said “Septima, you cant waste this opportunity. You cannot build yourself forever in debate competition. You have to realize that we have to give the chance to the next young EDSers”  I got it that this is my time. I have to be the best and of course do rehearse. WTF with the other arguments which against it. Memei was absolutely right. And I think it was so freaking cool argument. 

I am able to see the bright side. Even though I should pay for about IDR600.000 to join this competition, I say it doesn’t matter. I know I am lack of money. I could say to you that I only have IDR100.000 in my account which is split into two sections. The first section is IDR50.000 in my purse, and the rest IDR50.000 is in my account. I know it is lame but I believe a big opportunity and experience will be waiting for me in Purwokerto. 

For the last but not least, I love you Grandpa who really support me even thou you also worry about what is we say ‘ a classical ‘ reason. Let’s do the best and I know Allah will do the rest.

Keep debating because I say that debate will put me in the very indisputable honor of my life.

We Say that It was Sensitive

The time has passed. I don’t know when it actually happened but it had happened. I read an article suggested by my friend. It was about someone who apparently “doubting” the existence of Indonesia, my beloved country. I don’t expect more than his masterpieces at the first time. However, now people considered him for kinda bad. Yes, it was one of my favorite singer, JB who tried to speak about his experiences in my country.

Let’s say that it was nothing but just some “bloopies”. I see now or we could say that talking something about one’s country is really really sensitive for ever. In my opinion, I believe that every single country in this world is more than special. We can see its geography, culture, people, building, education, government, habit, custom, service, health, and many others are very unique. They can vary. We could not simply say or judge that it is not good just because my behalf is not upheld Depends on my standard.  Many aspects should be considered at the very first place to judge something as good or pathetic. Moreover if this matter is related to societies’ behalf, maybe we could consider it more. Even if it is true, that a country belongs to a failed state, we should contribute together to fix it not even exacerbate the condition by saying inappropriate thing. 

Time to relax from the sensitive issues is when you talking this matter with someone you definitely know well. You will get trouble when you say something crazy beside someone who you don’t know at all. Yeah, believe me. LOL

A day in March

This is kinda late to writing starting point. However, gw bener2 pengen ngisi blog ini pake whateva pengalamn gw tiap hari pas gw kuliah di Unnes.

Well, lets get started! J

This is Sunday, but not that sunny. Ya know, dah gerimis mendung pula. Tp that wasn’t a big deal for me. Pertama-tama hari ini gw bangun jam 5.25 AM which was kinda late for myself but it was because gw tidur jam 3.15 AM. Tanpa basa-basi and kasihan ma mata gw, langsung menghambur ke kamar mandi and washing my face as well as brushing my teeth. Hari ini agendanya  adalah senam aerobic and jogging ama Memei and Indri (Friends of mine in Debating world) di FIK Unnes. Pas Memei and gw naek motor ke FIK kita papasan ma Indri di jalan dekat FIS, meaning that Indri dah dari tadi siap. LOL, what a shame since we actually asked her firstly, FYI kadang2 Memei and gw suka nelat. OMG, that is the habit of EDSer.(Peace EDSer).Though  I believe it wont be stay any longer anymore!  Sampe sana qt langsung mulai buat senam aerobik. Ya know, badan gw serasa kaku semua, menit2 awal bener2 really clumsy I was, but yah gw bs menyesuaikan diri lah. Secara gw pengen ikut eksul tari tradisional kan, itung2 pemanasan . Anyway, instructorsnya  Cantik and Sexy kebanyakan. Ihhh, ngiri bgt punya badan kayak gt. Senamnya asik bgt nie, ada beberapa gerakan  yang lucu2, kayak dance and dangdut koplo gt. Lol no other words unless Hot and brrrrr, qt musti meliuk2 gt and shaking our body, kinda Cool.

Ada temen gw( junior sih) yang ternyata ikut jg, wah rasa2nya gw bener2 telat bgt nie….cool bgt dy dah ikut dr skg, secara dia kan msh semester 2. Kenapa gw dulu gak ikut, yah karena ga ada temen kan. Okay, finally, I really sweat A lot, nice, rasanya badan seger bgt. Seneng bgt gw. Abis selesai senam qt mau jogging sebenarnya ( or gw sama Memei actually ). Indri bilang dy enggan. Hemmm, padahal bakal asyik lho In, harap kapan2 deh.  GUYS, let me tell u something bout the track, OK…TRACKNYA!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUPER ASYIK bgt…So lovely. Bayangin aja qt punya track yang diaspal and ordered very very cool and tied pake batu kerikil merah….OMG, selain itu gw suka suasananya, claudy but cerah as well. Oya, ada mas2 ganteng2 jg.:P(( SEPTIM???A!!!!!) # nada Eka)) gw Cuma kuat 3 kali putaran lari + 1 kali jalan, gw pikir itu dah cukup kog. Kalo memei mah kuat 6 putaran, wah super bgt ni anak.lol, gw, lame! Hahaha, no, really not at all, gw cuman,…males kasian kaki gw tar dah trembling kayak gt og.:P

Abis dasri jogging qt cari makan deh, isi perut yang sedari malam Cuma makan kentang and mi instant. HUEKSSSS. Setelah long hunting akhirnya qt mutusin makan mupat sayur. Gw ga pake telur as usual, tp ternyata da suwiran ayamnya…langsung aja tag kasih Memei…

Well, sore ini juga kinda weird since I spent 100 IDR and more to shopping my stuff. It was weird since I didn’t plan to buy those. Yah tp mau gimana lg lah, barangnya jg q butuhin.

Lesson of the day, : ada banyak nyamuk mengerubungi kakiku!

my first thought

Everything is going to be in a right order. When I think about, reading, listening and the most really powerful are on SPEAKING and WRITING. I know when I want to talk to somebody I need to be structural in every single aspect. Where is the BG, statement, content and conclusion. It will be reflected truly in your speaking also. No body want to be neglected when they are is speaking.. So please speak structurally...It will also work on writing section. Happy Trying!
